Selling your watch

Selling to us

One of the great pleasures of watch collecting is the curation of your own personal collection - trying new pieces, trading up or down and moving on a watch that just isn’t getting much wrist time. Whether you’re selling, part‑exchanging or making use of our Buy‑back scheme, we aim to make the process simple and straightforward.

If you have one or more watches that fit our ethos that you’d like to sell, we’d be happy to take a look. Simply send us the model details, condition and ideally a few photos, and we’ll let you know our offer.

For larger collections, please get in touch

If you’ve bought it from SHWC in the past, please check out our Buy-back scheme.

We will also consider commission arrangements (on request). These are typically better suited to larger collections or more unusual and higher value pieces. Please ask for further details.

Brands

Second Hand Watch Collective focuses on independent and microbrand watches that share a common ethos: well‑made, thoughtful design, strong value and genuine character.

We are deliberately selective by design and tend to favour brands we know, trust and admire. Expect more Pinion, Elliot Brown or Halios and less Breitling, Omega or Rolex. Our selection is deliberately narrow. We know what we like and we focus on doing that well. If a watch does not align with our approach, we simply pass.

If you are looking specifically to sell a Christopher Ward, our sister site Ward Hoard remains our dedicated CW‑only destination.

Pricing

As SHWC is a business, the price we can offer will naturally be lower than the eventual selling price - similar to how services like webuyanycar.com or MusicMagpie operate.

The aim, however, is simple: a quick, honest and hassle‑free sale if the watch is in good condition and the price makes sense for both of us.

Where we differ from the well‑known trade‑in services is that we honour our prices. Once we’ve provisionally agreed a price with you (in advance), that’s almost always the number — there’s no haggling or chipping once the watch arrives. On the very rare occasions where something unexpected shows up during inspection (usually a mechanical issue such as poor timekeeping where the watch is outside its warranty period), we’ll explain the reason clearly, revise the offer accordingly and return the watch at our cost if you’d prefer not to proceed.

UK only (mainly)

We do accept overseas enquiries, but because UK duty and VAT (20%) are charged on any inbound watch (whether a straight sale or part exchange), it’s rarely practical to reach a workable price on non‑UK pieces. For that reason, sales tend to be UK‑only.

Part exchange

Part‑exchange is a practical, low‑hassle way to move from one watch to another. It means you don’t need to sell your watch first, avoid the cash outlay of buying outright, and skip the risk and effort that come with private sales.

If you’d like to partex your watch for another piece in our stock, the process is exactly the same as selling your watch — except the prices that we can offer are a little better, as the credit goes straight towards your next watch.
