Quick facts

Description

Ball occupies a slightly different corner of the watch world to many independent and enthusiast-focused brands. Founded in America in 1891 and now Swiss-made, Ball has built its reputation around robust engineering, exceptional legibility and the use of self-powered tritium gas tubes rather than conventional luminous paint. The result is a range of watches designed first and foremost as dependable everyday tools.

The Fireman Enterprise is one of the most understated watches in the Ball catalogue. Housed in a 40mm stainless steel case measuring just 11.3mm thick, it takes a clean and versatile approach that allows it to work equally well as a daily wearer or a more formal piece. The polished steel case is paired with a matching bracelet, while the uncluttered black dial keeps the focus firmly on legibility.

True to Ball's philosophy, the dial features tritium micro gas tubes on the hands and hour markers. Unlike conventional lume, these tubes provide a constant glow without requiring exposure to light, ensuring superb low-light visibility at all times. It is one of Ball's defining features and remains one of the most practical solutions to night-time legibility in modern watchmaking.

Power comes from Ball's RR1103 automatic calibre, based on the proven ETA 2824-2. Reliable, robust and easily serviceable, it offers a 38-hour power reserve and serves as an ideal movement for a watch designed around everyday use rather than unnecessary complexity.

With 100 metres of water resistance, a versatile 40mm case and Ball's signature tritium illumination, the Fireman Enterprise strikes an appealing balance between dress watch refinement and tool watch practicality. It is a watch that prioritises function, reliability and legibility whilst remaining elegant enough for almost any occasion.
