anOrdain is a Glasgow-based independent watchmaker best known for reviving Grand Feu enamel dial production in the UK. Since its founding in 2015, the brand has built a reputation around traditional craft, producing enamel dials in-house using techniques that are both labour-intensive and difficult to master. While many microbrands focus on specifications, anOrdain's appeal lies in the combination of contemporary design and genuinely artisanal dial making.

The Model 2 takes that philosophy in a different direction from the more familiar field-watch aesthetic of the Model 1. Where the Model 1 is more overtly utilitarian, the Model 2 is cleaner, more refined and noticeably more architectural in its execution.

The watch is housed in a 36mm stainless steel case with flowing, sculpted lugs and a slim bezel that gives maximum prominence to the dial. The proportions strike a balance between dress and everyday wear, allowing the watch to move comfortably between casual and more formal settings.

The enamel dial is the star of the show. Fired multiple times at extremely high temperatures, each dial develops subtle variations in tone and texture that cannot be replicated through conventional manufacturing methods. Depending on the colour, the surface can appear to shift character as the light changes, giving the watch a depth that photographs rarely capture.

The distinctive typography and syringe-style handset reinforce anOrdain's design-led approach. Rather than drawing heavily from historical references, the Model 2 feels uniquely its own, combining modern graphic design with traditional craftsmanship in a way few brands attempt.

Power comes from a Swiss automatic movement, typically the Sellita SW200-1, providing a reliable and easily serviceable mechanical foundation. The movement is deliberately unshowy, allowing the focus to remain firmly on the dial work that defines the watch.

The result is a watch that feels both contemporary and handcrafted. The Model 2 isn't trying to impress through complication or technical innovation; instead, it succeeds through design, restraint and one of the most distinctive dial-making processes in modern watchmaking.

No surprise then the waiting list runs into years - I’m a big fan of what they do and have had a number of their models in my own collection in the past. Currently I’ve got a Model 1 Parisian Blue.

Described as Midnight green, it’s a really dark dial -almost black, with just a hue of green. it’s lovely - the photos do not do it justice.
