Description
Marloe Watch Company is a British brand founded in 2015 by Oliver Goffe and Gordon Fraser originally based in Marlow Buckinghamshire and now assembling watches in‑house in Oxfordshire. Both founders came from creative design backgrounds rather than traditional horology but shared a frustration with modern watches that looked premium on the outside and felt hollow once opened. Marloe’s signature is “Time Well Spent”, a motto that underpins the brand’s approach to watchmaking.
The Motorsport collection moves Marloe away from water and field and instead draws inspiration from classic motor racing. The Motorsport 25 takes its name from the Lotus 25 and the career of Scottish driver Jim Clark with the green and yellow colourway referencing the car that carried him to his first World Championship title. Rather than creating a novelty racing watch, Marloe have translated motorsport design language into watchmaking terms, focusing on gauges, instrumentation and mechanical sympathy rather than overt branding.
Built around the 41mm Coniston Automatic case, the Motorsport 25 remains compact and wearable despite its visual complexity. The dial is where the personality really lives. A multi‑layer construction combines a scalloped outer ring, a luminous perimeter or “moat” and a raised central plate, creating real depth without compromising legibility. The minute‑based scale, redline detail and instrument‑inspired handset all echo vintage speedometers rather than traditional watch dials, reinforcing the automotive influence without tipping into pastiche.
Power comes from the Japanese Miyota 8N24 automatic movement. Chosen for its reliability and openworked architecture, it adds another layer of interest through the exhibition caseback.
