Description
Marloe Watch Company is a British brand founded in 2015 by Oliver Goffe and Gordon Fraser originally based in Marlow Buckinghamshire and now assembling watches in‑house in Oxfordshire. Both founders came from creative design backgrounds rather than traditional horology but shared a frustration with modern watches that looked premium on the outside and felt hollow once opened. Marloe’s signature is “Time Well Spent”, a motto that underpins the brand’s approach to watchmaking.
The Coniston collection draws its inspiration from British speed‑record history rather than motorsport or maritime design. Named after Coniston Water in the Lake District, it references the achievements of Sir Malcolm and Donald Campbell and the engineering focus behind the Bluebird record‑breaking vehicles. Rather than creating a commemorative watch, Marloe translated this heritage into a design language centred on mechanical instruments, precision and restraint.
The Coniston Second Edition refines the original design through a series of subtle but considered updates. Contrast within the chapter ring is improved, metallic texture is introduced to the dial surface, and a soft grey pattern is added around the central plateau. These changes enhance depth and legibility while preserving the architectural layout that defines the Coniston. The multi‑layer dial construction remains central to the watch’s character, with applied indices extending over a recessed ring of lume to create a strong sense of dimensionality.
Power comes from the Japanese Miyota 8N24 automatic movement. Chosen for its reliability and visual interest, it brings hacking seconds, a 40‑hour power reserve and an openworked design visible through the exhibition caseback.
